OK, Just having returned home from the Meltdown comics DC REBOOT Midnight release party with a copy of FLASHPOINT #5 and JUSTICE LEAGUE #1, of course the FIRST thing I did was read them… twice.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #1

The Verdict? Meh…

I am NOT going to give you any spoilers so fear not friends!!

The art was great (Of course… Jim Lee Drew it) The story? Well it’s… ok. It is what it is… a reboot, so heroes bump into each other and act like it’s the FIRST time they have EVER met. But, didnt DC say they were going to KEEP parts of characters histories? You know… Cherry pick the good stuff and weed out the crap. So HOW can that happen if Superheroes don’t even KNOW one another…????

I am still not sold on this “reboot” that SHOULD just have “CRISIS” attached to it. But DC swears that this is the only way to gain new readers and solidify the faith of current fans.

We shall see. I’ll give the book a thumbs up for quality, but a solid Thumbs down for the books costing $3.99. WAY to hold that line at $2.99 DC…

FLASHPOINT #5

Again… no spoilers, Screw that. I HAVE to give the story away to talk about it!

Barry Allen IS the Flash, and proves that he IS every bit the hero we know and love him to be. I enjoyed the sentimental moments, even the one with Batman (You’ll see). But to use the flippin COSMIC TREADMILL as the catalyst for this reboot, hurts my head. One of the LAMEST devices to exist in the DC Universe is what sets the entire reboot into motion. And all because Flash runs into himself to prevent him from changing the past? Dr Brown is rolling in his grave!!! Oh time travel, when will writers EVER be clever enough to write themselves out of a corner without you?

Verdict? Meh. Again, i’m disappointed. The art was great, but the story just left me wanting more. I wasn’t impressed and the end of the book being a hallmark moment just made me roll my eyes. I’m happy a few heroes got some closure and shared a moment, but if this is what’s to come? Keep it!

About Damian

A native of Glastonbury, Connecticut, Damian has lived in Los Angeles for more than four years. Having worked in front of, behind, and above the camera, he has become a “Jack of All Trades” in the entertainment biz. Damian has collected comic books since he was five years old, dressed up as super-heroes since he was six, and occasionally gets paid by companies to portray them at conventions across the country. More important, he uses his awesome powers for good. Several times a year he collects donations from movie studios, toy companies, and comic book shops, so he can don the tights and cape of Superman for visits to children’s hospitals and the City of Hope’s annual cancer survivors picnic. Damian is currently working on several ongoing web series. In his spare time he enjoys slaying damsels and saving dragons in distress!
