Attention, Brave Citizens!

This is maybe one of the coolest things I’ve seen in my life!

One of my favorite features of the 1966 Barris Batmobile is the parachutes that would deploy to assist the instant bat-turn.

The Bat-Chute Drag Chute for Bicycles was produced in 1966 to tie in with the Batmania craze from the television show.  This beauty recently sold on ebay for $1200.00!  Ok, $1200.66 to be exact.  Keep in mind, it had NEVER been used, and came with the original hardware and near perfect box!  Speaking of the box, notice the Pop Art Pink.  This must have SCREAMED for your attention in the toy store!

With this toy, you just clamp it to the back of your bike, pull a string to deploy, and boom, you feel like the caped crusader!  Furthermore, if I had one of these beauties on my bicycle, I’d have to wear my Ideal Batman Helmet and cape while riding.  (mental note….write post about Ideal Batman Helmet…)

In the photo above, you can see the pull string, and the mounting hardware for the back of the bicycle still factory sealed! (click below for more details)

Something tells me you had to supply your own “VOOOMP” sound effect upon pulling the cord.

I LOVE how the parachute has the logo on it!  The chances of one of these surviving in perfect condition are next to none.  One can only imagine that after one or two deployments, the parachute must have either dragged on the ground, or got caught in the spokes of the back wheel.  Most probably ended up completely shredded.

And here you have the National Periodical Publications mark!  Such vintage tastiness!!!
