Welcome to The Comic Book Nerd…
Where all things COMICS and NERD are discussed!
Damian
A native of Glastonbury, Connecticut, Damian has lived in Los Angeles for more than four years. Having worked in front of, behind, and above the camera, he has become a “Jack of All Trades” in the entertainment biz. Damian has collected comic books since he was five years old, dressed up as super-heroes since he was six, and occasionally gets paid by companies to portray them at conventions across the country. More important, he uses his awesome powers for good. Several times a year he collects donations from movie studios, toy companies, and comic book shops, so he can don the tights and cape of Superman for visits to children’s hospitals and the City of Hope’s annual cancer survivors picnic. Damian is currently working on several ongoing web series. In his spare time he enjoys slaying damsels and saving dragons in distress!
Sandra
Raised in the tradition of most Air Force Brats, Sandra got to move around a lot as a child and still to this day has visited more countries than US states. Having only so many television stations overseas, getting up at 4 am Saturday mornings and sitting through 60 Minutes until Voltron and Thundercats came on was a norm. Other than cartoons, comics and video games, she nurtured her imagination playing outdoors and became quite the tomboy, as G.I. Joe was so much cooler than Rainbow Brite. A small zoo may have had more animals, but her goal to be a Veterinarian was cut short by allergy shots. So pursuing her lifelong hobby, Sandra became a freelance artist in which she enjoys digitally painting beloved characters, dragons, zombies.. it’s a good life! Her sidekick, Michael, uses the same BFA degree to create armies of collectible figurines.
Bernij
Berni J is a writer, avid moviegoer, and full-blooded geek ever since having her mind blown by Star Wars at the age of 5. She has since branched out into all other forms of pop culture (video games, comics, anime, you name it). When she’s not slinging computer code for a university in the Southeastern United States, she can be found working on her long unfinished genre novel and watching more television than is good for her.
Jonesy
Jonesy is among other things, an actor, singer, dancer and painter. During his eight years in Chicago, he saw Oprah only once, at a Tina Turner concert. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and his art hangs in personal collections throughout the country. In his spare time, he fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.
Felix
Felix was raised on a macrobiotic diet of lentils, kelp and tofu. That’s probably why he currently subsists on Slim Jim’s and Slurpees. Born in the frigid north of Wisconsin and raised in the fun and sun of Daytona “the world’s most famous/birthplace of speed” Beach, he now lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife, daughter and four-legged hairy son with a speech impediment. When not making a total ass of himself in the public forum of the Internet, he can be found developing said Internet from the comfort of his office cube. Oh yeah, he also has a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from the University of South Florida – not that you give a crap… honestly.
Kevin
Kevin clawed his way into this world in the seventies, and had the fortune of having Star Wars be the first movie his Dad ever took him to see. After that he quickly began devouring every bit of science fiction he could get his hands on, and then when he realized books were hard to digest properly, he began reading them. On a brisk December day in 1985, he picked up Uncanny X-Men #189 from the comics rack of his local 7-11, and so began a lifelong obsession. Today he reads every comic he can get his hands on, despite the fact that he has an unread pile nearly as tall as he is. By day he works at a super-secret lab engineering interfaces for super-secret people, and in his spare time he dons heroic attire to battle the forces of evil the world over. He lives in Atlanta with his beautiful, smart, funny and incredibly sexy English wife who he somehow managed to con into marrying him with his wit, devil-may-care demeanor, and rugged handsomeness. He also has two adopted dogs, a fish, and is allowed to write his own bios.
Jen
Once upon a time, in a small English seaside town you’ve probably never heard of unless you’ve seen Fawlty Towers, a girl dreamed of running off with the AT-AT toy that a neighbourhood’s kid had. She never succeeded – probably because she was too small to pick it up – and still doesn’t own one (dammit!), but her love of most things geek-shaped stuck. Almost exclusively a Marvel fan, Jen decided that a cool thing to do would be to fly out of England and land in San Diego to attend that Comic Con thing everyone was talking about. Somehow she managed to meet a fine young man named Kevin there, and moved to Atlanta at the end of 2009 to spout her crazy slang and endless sarcasm at him. When she’s not hanging out with belugas and whale sharks she likes to express her comics-related enthusiasm by getting into silly debates on the internet and making costumes (oh dear), most of which are Mockingbird’s. Contender for World’s Biggest Clint Barton Fan after Jim McCann and a lover of ridiculous puns. Kevin neglected to mention that their fish is called Betta Ray Bill.
Thomas
As a tyke, his older sisters terrorized him with episodes of Dark Shadows and classic Star Trek until he thwarted their plans by learning to read the TV Guide. (He neither confirms nor denies nightmares featuring Yarnok from season three’s “The Savage Curtain,” but to a four-year-old, a rock-like alien can be pretty damn scary.) After theoretically growing up, Thom followed the family tradition and joined the Navy where he spent several fun-filled summers patrolling the waters of the Persian Gulf. Yet while on active duty he still found time to nurture his true loves—comic books and science fiction. He consummated those relationships by writing his doctoral thesis on The Next Generation, then moving to LA where he has worked non-stop since. His secret identity is as a mild-mannered college professor. But at night… Well, you know the rest.
Darin
A native of the planet Earth, Darin enjoys the fantasy and sci-fi themes and everything to do with them. When he is not fighting crime on the streets (oh wait, ignore that) how about, slinging dice at a miniature, you can usually find him slaving away at his Xbox 360 controller or (gasp) reading a book. One thing to keep in mind when reading his reviews of the various games is that he loves RPGs and doesn’t know the first thing about sports. He continues to wander about the world in search of who he is and where he can pick up a +5 vorpal sword.
Matt
(bio coming soon)
thatDJSpider
Spider grew up on an island in the Caribbean, where she was a voracious reader of both books and comics. Other than relocating to the US mainland, not much has changed. In addition to the general chaos of collecting comics and action figures, she is an avid costumer, a DJ of some reputation (good or bad, she ain’t sayin’), a pretty good cook, and an all around goof. She currently pretends to find time to sleep in Charlotte, NC, with three cats and Petzilla, her partner-in-geek-crime. And yes, she really is that tall.
Buddhaful
Born during an episode of TOS and raised by dirty D&D hippies, this poor girl had no chance. When she’s not book learnin’ – shes probably in the ocean, watching star trek, or forcing everyone around her to endure horror moviethons. Bruce Campbell? Her personal demi-God. Costuming, charity work, college and a kidlet take up most of her time. But seriously, who needs sleep when you’re training the future generation of nerds? With great power comes great responsibility…..or something.
Will Cockrell
No wife, no girlfriend; no partners, no sidekicks. Just one man with what is almost certainly too many weapons. Like Frank Castle, but with much, much better hair.
Joshua Harvey
Joshua Harvey grew up just outside of the tragic wasteland of the mythical city known as “Los Angeles.” He has worked as a comic book retailer, a fine wine salesman and movie projection specialist. He will always remember his first comic book but somehow not always what he did last night. When he isn’t trying in vain to organize his mountainous comic collection he is trying to get work writing for magazines, newspapers and maybe comic book publishers. He currently lives in San Francisco after deciding that the weather in L.A. is just too damn pleasant. He may someday get a TV, too. Maybe.
Athena Stamos
Having grown up in Los Angeles, Athena is half goddess and half geek. While she is particularly an avid Bondian and Whovian, her geek cred is all over the map: Star Trek TOS, Neil Gaiman, conventions, cosplay, 3-day sleepless movie marathons, co-hosting podcasts, etc. Her Doctor Who obsession was instilled since birth by PBS. Then at age 5 the episode Planet of the Spiders scared her and she swore she’d never watch again; that hiatus didn’t last long. Her James Bond obsession started young with the James Bond Jr. cartoon; further solidified when she visited Piz Gloria (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service) and the Monasteries of Meteora (For Your Eyes Only) and began her dive into the 007 films. Her geek point of no return happened when she became involved in the largest 007 fan site CommanderBond.net and interwove herself into the Los Angeles Doctor Who convention Gallifrey One. She’s studied journalism, currently works in a Pilates studio, has her cosmetology license, collaborates on video projects, and enjoys photography as if the camera were an extension of her body.
